Our employment support specialist, Carolyn Tucker has been shortlisted for a coveted award after being recognised for helping people on the autism spectrum to secure employment.
Carolyn has been shortlisted as Most Inspirational Social Care Professional at the National Autistic Society’s Autism Professionals Awards. She supports people with a wide range of disabilities by helping them to find employment opportunities with organisations across Surrey and beyond the county borders.
Carolyn works for our EmployAbility Service with adults who may have traditionally found it difficult to secure employment. EmployAbility is a dedicated service that helps to find work placements, training, volunteer opportunities and paid work with employers.
Carolyn, who has continued to work beyond the age of retirement, shows no interesting in ‘slowing down’ and is renowned for her enthusiasm and energy, continually supporting people with disabilities and their families. Over the last five years she has supported over 60 people into paid jobs.
Carolyn was shortlisted by an independent panel of 10 autism experts who judged each nomination on their innovation, creativity, impact and sustainability.

Carolyn said: “It’s lovely to be shortlisted for such a prestigious award like this. The people we support are such fantastic employees, they are incredibly focused and determined to work as hard as they can to deliver excellent results for their employers.”
Carol Povey, Director of the National Autistic Society’s Centre for Autism, said: “A huge congratulations to Carolyn. She should be very proud for standing out among so many high quality nominations and impressing the judges with her hard work supporting autistic people into work.
“Support and services in the UK are still far too patchy. We hope that sharing the stories of our winners and finalists, including Carolyn’s, we will inspire other people and organisations – and give them some ideas about how they can make a real difference.”
The awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday 7 March in Harrogate.
