Our Shared Lives service is provided by carefully chosen single people, couples or families who offer support and accommodation within their own households. The people they support live or stay as part of the Shared Lives Carers’ family having been carefully matched by experienced teams at Surrey Choices.
Two of our Shared Lives Carers took Kimberley, a Shared Lives customer to Disneyland Paris to celebrate the magic with the Disney characters and discover the attractions, shows and street parades.
“Kimberley, said: “Nanda took me and Padma to the airport. I really enjoyed the plane ride both me and Padma got a free hot chocolate because I told the hostess it was my first time flying.
“We took the shuttle bus to Disneyland, where I went on a ride called ‘Magical Carpet’ and saw the Disney Parade – it was an amazing show.
“I waited in line to meet Mickey Mouse and had my photo taken with him. I had a fantastic time and enjoyed meeting all of the Disney characters.”
As part of Shared Lives Week 2018 (15-24thJune), which is running this week, we are encouraging potential Carers and people who may need support to get in touch to find out more about the service.
Christina Earl, our Senior Operations Manager, said: “Sometimes a person requires on-going support in a homely environment as it can really provide stability and support which helps them immensely. Other times we are contacted by families who are looking for short breaks for their loved one who may have dementia. The service provides support for young adults right through to older adults.
“Shared Lives enables people to choose the level of care that is right for them in a trusted environment with people they are matched to. We see this service making such a difference to people’s lives – both the adults who need support and the carers themselves. We’d really like to hear from people who feel they may benefit from support or those who may be to offer care in their home.”
