Customers Teeing Up To Raise Money For Children In Need

Customers from Surrey Choices are teeing up for a day of sporting fun when they play a Pudsey Bear themed game of golf to raise money for Children in Need.

A team of enthusiastic golf players from the Woodmansterne Project, will play a four hole game of golf at Woodmansterne Sports Club on Wednesday 26th August, where they will get to meet Pudsey Bear. Teams will also be coming on the day from Surrey Choices services Colebrook and The Larches.

Our first Surrey Choices Speed Dating evening in Staines was not only about romance but meeting new people, broadening social lives outside the usual day opportunities and just plain old fun!

The positive aspects of this event focused on the great prospects of making a positive impact for our customers. The aim to support our customers and other people with a variety of support needs to develop friendships and relationships is a very important goal. By achieving this it can help combat isolation and loneliness and improve health and well being.

Gardening together achieves new practical outdoor space

The Surrey Choices’ Growth Team and the Empower Results team from Aon Plc joined forces on Thursday 11 June to landscape our Short Breaks Banstead.
Our Growth Team usually take on a variety of countryside management projects, maintaining rights of way across the county including large public spaces but it was a great experience to work on something closer to home. The team worked hard sprucing up the grounds of our brand new Short Breaks accommodation to ensure each guest has a beautiful outdoor space to enjoy.

Ashford and St Peter’s support young people with learning disabilities to help with life and work skills

Seven students with learning disabilities from Brooklands College celebrated with a lunch together and a cake baked by one of the students after completing a six month work placement at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals as part of their Learning for Employment And Progression (LEAP) Pathway Entry 3 course, with the support of the Surrey Choices EmployAbility team.

Artistic Ryan has designs on dream job

An artistic Camberley man has secured his dream job thanks to a Surrey Choices service that helps people with disabilities to find employment.

Ryan Medlock is a talented illustrator – who also happens to be autistic.

Despite holding a first class honours degree in illustration and a masters degree in children’s book illustration, Ryan had struggled to find work for years after graduating.

But since being referred to Surrey Choices EmployAbility service, Ryan has now found a job that enables him to do exactly what he loves.

Recycling for your future

Surrey Choices have partnered with FurnitureLink Guildford to develop a new recycling project. The project aims to develop your skills around woodwork and recycling furniture. FurnitureLink are providing a tutor and the project will run from Mondays – Thursdays commencing Monday 29 June 2015.
