Over the past few months, Surrey Choices has been working with Accent Housing Association to provide assistance to their residents to maintain their gardens. This partnership formed when Accent had to withdraw the assisting gardening service they used to offer to some of their elderly and vulnerable residents.
Surrey Choices provide a range of support services dedicated to improving independence, confidence and life skills of people with a range of disabilities and support needs in their local community.
Surrey Choices support those with learning, and physical disabilities, sensory needs, people on the autistic spectrum and those with mental health and well-being challenges. The objective is to enable every person the chance to fulfil their potential and reach their goals through enjoying, learning and achieving.
Accent has specifically been working with our Growth Team, who offer training and support to volunteers so they can carry out practical gardening tasks.
Accent has been really pleased with the service that Surrey Choices can offer their residents and they are now working with us on some larger projects. Currently they are working with us to improve the appearance of one of their schemes in St Michaels, Camberley.
Over the coming 12 months, Accent hopes to continue to develop the partnership with Surrey Choices and we are pleased with this joint venture.
Jessica Williams, Marketing and Communications Manager for Surrey Choices, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Accent Housing on this project. Our Growth Team are enjoying working on this initiative, which allows them to gain valuable work experience in the community. All of the new skills learnt help to equip our customers on their learning journey.”
