Horticulture loving members of the community are being invited in for a sneak peek around the Surrey Choices Secret Garden following a major revamp of the plant nursery.
Families are welcome to join in the fun at the Redhill based centre with a range of activities, ranging from face painting for kids, through to afternoon tea, crafts and a compost workshop.
Visitors will also get the opportunity to see the official unveiling of Surrey Choices new RHS designed Sensory Garden plan, which will give children and individuals with learning disabilities or dementia the chance to appreciate the outdoors, learn all about horticulture and familiarise themselves with their surroundings through sight and touch.
Kids can discover a ‘burrow,’ especially designed for small people to explore, as well as roam around the grounds and receive an educational experience like no other.
Kate Falconer, Senior Activity Facilitator at Surrey Choices, commented: “Our customers have worked really hard to get the nursery in tip top condition for the launch date and I’m really proud of how many new skills they’ve attained over the past few months.
“The Secret Garden has been specially designed to be as user friendly as possible and provides families of all ages and abilities with an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and learn all about the environment.”
Visitors will be given the chance to learn all about the centre and its upcoming Sensory Garden and can also enjoy 10% off all purchases on the day.
The Secret Garden is based on the grounds of the former Colebrook Garden Centre and provides volunteering opportunities for people with learning difficulties and dementia as a way for them to develop their horticultural skills.
The Open Day is taking place on Saturday 13 May 2017 between 11am to 3pm. The Secret Garden is situated on St Anne’s Drive, Redhill, RH1 1PT.
