Building friendships in a new environment
Vickie is a very bubbly lady who loves to socialise. She requires support when accessing the community due to her having difficulties with her eyesight. She communicates through Makaton, with support from others to express her words.
Vickie wanted to meet new people and visit new places, so she has been supported to try different activities in the community over the last 18 months. Her confidence has really come on leaps and bounds. She is more aware of herself, her needs and her wishes.
From being quite a quiet shy lady she is now the chatter box of the hub. Vickie is forever singing her heart out, chatting to others, learning people’s names and being able to use them freely with very little support. Vickie’s Makaton has really improved, and she is learning new signs on a weekly basis.
Colleague Linzi Elderfield, commented on Vickie’s growth throughout the year “She has been an absolute pleasure to get to know. We have watched her grow as an individual and she is now a huge character. We endeavour to support Vickie in her personal journey and look forward to all the new skills that she will learn over her time here.”
