Celebrating Success

The Celebrating Success Awards highlight the achievements of people supported by Surrey Choices. The judging panel was comprised of disabled people and colleagues from Surrey Choices. They were impressed by how each of the winners had overcome challenges, achieved new goals and were inspired by the way they demonstrated the values at Surrey Choices. 

Friends Relationships and Communities Award

For the Friends Relationships and Communities award judges were looking for individuals who: 

• Have a positive impact on the lives of other  

• Are active in their community  
• Learnt new skills to connect with their friends and support networks  

The Nomination

Christopher was nominated by a Carer. After making friends with another person supported by Surrey Choices, he has helped them to grow in confidence. Throughout lockdown he kept in contact with the friend via phone. Having learnt to use text messaging, this person began to make more use of his phone to keep in contact and arrange to meet up. After completing travel training, he found the confidence to travel independently by bus to visit the friend.  

The judges were impressed at the way this person put in the effort to learn new life skills so that he could meet and support a friend. Learning to use public transport is a huge accomplishment, which required great courage. 

The Impact

When Chris found out he had won he said: 

“I feel so proud to have won this award”
