Celebrating Success
The Celebrating Success Awards highlight the achievements of people supported by Surrey Choices. The judging panel was comprised of disabled people and colleagues from Surrey Choices. They were impressed by how each of the winners had overcome challenges, achieved new goals and were inspired by the way they demonstrated the values at Surrey Choices.
Independent Living and Life Skills
For the Independent Living and Life Skills award judges were looking for Individuals who:
- Have worked hard to have a more independent lifestyle
- Gained confidence to overcome challenges
- Made a positive different to their life
The Nomination
Elizabeth has adapted very well to doing activities in the community. She has learnt when and where activities are taking place, their start and finish times, where to meet, and what she needs to bring with her. She can now work out what money she needs for the week to buy herself a drink or meal in town. Her confidence has grown enormously as a result.
The judges were impressed by the range of life skills that she has learnt which has helped to increase her independence and will continue to help her throughout her life.
The Impact
After finding out Elizabeth had won the award she said:
“I was overwhelmed to hear I was a winner. It hasn’t sunk in yet”
