Surrey Choices are delighted to announce that our Local Charity of the Year for 2019 is the Fountain Centre.
What does The Fountain Centre do?
The Fountain Centre is a charity for cancer patients, their families and carers. They are located in the St Luke’s cancer unit at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford.
When a patient is diagnosed with cancer they often find themselves in a state of shock with their lives spiralling out of control. Not knowing where to turn. The Fountain Centre is there for patients and their families from the initial cancer diagnosis until treatment finishes and beyond.
They provide information, counselling and complementary therapies, in a calming and relaxed atmosphere, allowing patients to make informed choices and regain control of their future. They also have a wig bank, a lending library, and can provide information about local support groups, welfare benefits and a host of specialist cancer charities.
One in three of us will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in our lives, and it is not just the individual who needs support, but relatives and friends as well. Every year the Fountain Centre helps over 2,500 newly diagnosed cancer patients and their loved ones to live with cancer.
There is more information about the services The Fountain Centre can offer and how you can help on their website, or you can watch a short film on YouTube.
How will Surrey Choices work with The Fountain Centre?
Throughout the year, we will be working in partnership with The Fountain Centre to raise awareness of the charity and services they offer as well as fundraising for them through a variety of activities and events. Everyone at Surrey Choices are looking forward to working closely with the centre in order to fully understand the work they do and the resources available in order to support colleagues, families and those we support.
We believe that our “Every Life, Every Chance” motto and core values such as “Opportunity”, “Inclusive”, “Empowerment” and “Supportive” go hand-in-hand with The Fountain Centre. We both aim to empower individuals as well as their families or Carers to live an independent life. This is achieved through the right support and guidance, providing life-changing opportunities that may not be offered elsewhere.
