Colleague Spotlight: Beth
Our Colleague Spotlight feature is on Beth who is an HR Administrator. Read Beth’s interview below to find out why she joined Surrey Choices, her dream holiday destination and much more.
What do you most love about your job?
The feeling of knowing that I have helped someone at the end of the day will always be one of my most loved aspects of my job.
Even though I do not have a customer facing role within Surrey Choices, I feel as though I am a part of such a wonderful community of people who always do their best for others. The fact that I am still able to help people within my HR role makes everything all the more perfect.
Surrey Choices has already allowed me to enjoy many aspects of a career in HR, which is another thing I really love about my job!
What made you want to join the Surrey Choices Team?
I love being a part of a group or company that gives back to others and makes a huge difference to peoples’ lives.
Surrey Choices was everything I was looking for in an employer, and I am still so happy to be a part of what we are. The culture of the company was one of the first things I noticed online and in my interviews, and that made me want to join the Surrey Choices Team even more.
How did you find starting with Surrey Choices in the middle of the pandemic?
I thought I would find it really hard to start my first professional job knowing that I might not be working in an office, or that I may not meet my team in person for a very long time. It felt rather daunting that I may be ‘alone’.
I am very happy to say that I was put at ease right away, and felt instantly welcomed into the HR Team, and company. I received, and still receive, kind and useful support and feedback, and have also learnt so much in the time I have been with Surrey Choices.
What has been your proudest or favourite moment at Surrey Choices?
My proudest moment, aside from receiving my job offer last year, would probably be when I passed my probation period.
I was able to look back at the work I had already done with Surrey Choices in the HR team, and I realised how much I enjoyed each and every moment of it all.
Learning new skills and meeting new people is always a bonus, and I cannot wait to see what comes next!
Where would be your dream holiday?
Anywhere warm, so long as there is a chance of adventure!
Bora Bora is definitely on my dream holiday list, but so is Cyprus. It is not about the distance travelled for me, it is all about the experience!
What is on the top of your bucket list?
One day I would love to travel to Canada for a month (or longer). I am not sure why or where exactly in Canada, but I think it would be great fun.
My bucket list is still growing, so there are many more things I would like to do and see in the future!
