Colleague Spotlight: Emily

Our Colleague Spotlight feature is on Emily who is an Employment Support Specialist. Read Emily’s interview below to find out what attracted her to the job and what she hopes to achieve at Surrey Choices.

What attracted you to joining Surrey Choices?

I have a background in care so I knew that I liked working with people with disabilities or other care needs.

What is it about working in Adult Social Care that you enjoy the most?

The part I really enjoy is helping other people build new skills and gain independence. The Employment Support Specialist role looked like a perfect fit for me!

How have the first few months been?

I really enjoyed my first month at Surrey Choices. The team are fantastic, I could not have asked to work with nicer people. It has been a learning curve with a lot to learn but everyone has been so supportive.

What have you been doing in your job so far?

I love how varied my role is. I have been doing so many different jobs so quickly. For example, one person I have been supporting at a Stables so I have also been learning how to look after horses. Other days I have been supporting people at their role in a nursery or helping them to learn to travel independently from one place to another.

What is something you hope to achieve working

I am hoping to complete a qualification in supported employment, to develop my skills as I am still fairly new to this role and have a lot to learn. On a more general level, I want to help the people I support find jobs that they really enjoy and help them fulfil their potential.

What do you like most about working within EmployAbility?

It is really fun to be out and about in the community each day. It is a really hands on type of job which I really enjoy to be a part of. The people I get to work with are amazing and so are the people that we support.
