Our Colleague Spotlight feature is on Lizzie, who works within our EmployAbility team. Read Lizzie’s interview below to find out what her proudest moment is, her personal goals, and much more.
What has been your proudest moment at Surrey Choices?
That has to be when I found a paid job in Costa for one of the people I support. At school she had been told she would never find paid work, so I was very proud of her and she was so happy.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Don’t waste time comparing yourself to others because everyone is different.
What is a personal goal of yours?
I am currently preparing to do a sponsored walk to raise money and awareness for The Twins Trust, who help families with twins, triplets and more. Ever since I found out I was having identical twins and learnt about the risks that come with a twin pregnancy, I promised myself that one day I would find a way to give back. I am so grateful that my girls were born healthy, and I know that not everyone is as lucky. The money raised from the walk will go towards research and treatment of Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS).

What do you most love about your job?
I love the variety and flexibility of job coaching – one day you can be mucking out horses and the next you are sat in a fancy hotel.
What is something you would like to do more of this year?
I am excited to get more paid positions for the people we support. I am hoping that I can find some opportunities for some of the people I have been working with recently now that we have spent some time building up their skills and experience.
What does a typical day at work look like for you?
Lots of team meetings, phone calls and online meetings with professionals and Carers. My favourite days are when I get to do home visits and spend time with the people we support and their Shared Lives Carers.
