Our Colleague Spotlight feature is on Paige, who is a Senior Employment Support Specialist. Read Paige’s interview below to find out what she enjoys about her job, what she does in his spare time and much more.
What is something you hope to achieve this year?
I hope to achieve more outcomes for the people I support, as well as engaging with more employers to provide more opportunities in the world of work. I would also very much like to go on holiday this year. Fingers crossed!
What do you most love about your job?
I love seeing the change in confidence and growth in the people I support. Once they start interacting with their local communities and get involved in volunteering or working, it makes a huge difference. What is especially rewarding is when someone who never wanted to leave their house, starts to become more open to it because they enjoy their placement and it is the right for them.
How are you making a difference in your role?
I like to think I am making a difference by being supportive, understanding and prepared to help in any way I can. I am also a Mental Health First Aider which I think is invaluable and hopefully makes a difference to the colleagues I support.
What has been your proudest moment at Surrey Choices?
I have so many it is difficult to choose! Recently, my proudest moment would have to be when I achieved the Senior Employment Support Specialist role.
What advice would you give your younger self?
That you will not be painfully shy forever. Eventually you will find your voice and use it to empower others.
What is your favourite thing to do outside of work?
My favourite thing to do outside of work is probably to spend time with my dog, Teddy, as well as reading. I have too many books!
