Our Colleague Spotlight feature is on Sean, who works within our award winning Shared Lives team. Read Sean’s interview below to find out what he enjoys about his job, his personal goals and much more.
How long have you been working for Surrey Choices?
I have worked for Surrey Choices since our creation, and at Colebrook Day Centre before that. Almost 15 years in total!
What do you most love about working at Surrey Choices?
Being around the people I support allows me the opportunity to try to be the best version of myself. That is what they inspire in me, and that is what working for Surrey Choices allows me to do.
Why did you transfer to the Shared Lives Team?
I have always liked the Shared Lives Scheme. It allows individuals to live with a family and enjoy the benefits of that. I think that is something most people take for granted
What is a personal goal of yours?
To get organised and achieve my diploma in Chi Gung. I ran online Chi Gung sessions for Community Choices during lockdown but would like to become fully qualified to teach this in the future.
What is something you have learnt since joining the Shared Lives Team?
I have learnt that there are a lot of amazing people out there doing the Shared Lives Carers role. They should be in the spotlight, not me! But thanks for the 10 seconds of fame.
What does a typical day at work look like for you?
Lots of team meetings, phone calls and online meetings with professionals and Carers. My favourite days are when I get to do home visits and spend time with the people we support and their Shared Lives Carers.
Can you tell us about any upcoming events for Shared Lives?
Yes! We have planned a summer picnic and BBQ with games at Horton Country Park, and we have an upcoming quiz for Carers and people we support.
