On Tuesday 13 August, The Harbour Activity Centre and The Farnham Community Group invited friends, parents, Carers and colleagues to The Harbour Activity Centre to fundraise for our Local Charity of The Year, The Fountain Centre.
The idea to host this event came from Betty, who attends The Farnham Community Group. When speaking to Betty after the event, she told us:
I am so pleased that the day went well, everyone was so happy and cheerful, it was a great. It reminded me of when I was younger and my mum would have tea with sandwiches, cakes and biscuits for our friends that would come round. It was nice talking to my mums friends and we had much fun and laughter and I thought it would be a good idea to recreate that atmosphere again and have tea and fun with my friends.
In the past I have lost my two sisters, Mary and Joyce to cancer, and also my brother whose nickname was Shoey, he was a lovely brother and he passed away quite quickly with cancer in hospital, and it had a deep impact on me.
I saw at the Farnham group all the good things that we have done for the for the people at The Fountain Centre who have cancer, and I wanted to remember my brother in a good way. And I thought the best way of doing that is by helping others who went through the same thing as he did. It makes me feel really good that I remembered him in this way, and that we raised £267.90 for The Fountain Centre.
I worked really hard at achieving the tea morning, and it reminded me of helping my mum making cakes and sandwiches with her, it was really great recreating this feeling again. As well as making posters and invitations. It was also great buying all the ingredients and learning how to cater for a large number of people, achieving so much has given me a real sense of doing good for others and has made me feel so proud.
Well done to Betty and everyone involved in the event!
