Kim, Employment Support Specialist, runs a Creative Writing session for the people we support. The aim of the group is to learn different writing techniques such as opinion pieces, creative writing, reviews, blog posts and many more.
One of the aims of the session is to get their work published online or in a paper. Publication will look good on a CV and boost their chances of employment. Alongside these aims to increase employment opportunities, the Creative Writing session is a new way for people to learn independent skills such as reading and writing, digital skills to write their stories and join the virtual sessions each week, and communication skills to share their stories with each other.
“The Creative Writing sessions will be really helpful to me. I enjoy writing reviews because you get to express yourself about how you felt about any type of event or product that you just experienced and would offer to recommend to somebody else.” – D, Customer
The impact this session can have on the group will be around their confidence and their own ability to write. It will also benefit their ability to write cover letters, application forms to get their personality across, to make them stand out in a job application.
“The group enjoyed the first session. Everyone there was engaging and asking plenty of questions. This shows me that they want to learn new skills and get a job in a field they are passionate about.” – Kim, Employment Support Specialist
