A Decade of Difference: Surrey Choices Celebrates 10 Years
Surrey Choices is proud to announce that we are now a Level 2 Disability Confident Employer.
What is Disability Confident?
The Disability Confident scheme supports and encourages businesses to make the most of the talents that disabled people can bring into the workplace. This new standard is similar to the old ‘two ticks’ system, but asks employers to provide slightly different evidence of their commitment to employing people with a disability.
The scheme is ranked on a series of Levels which are based on criteria which each workplace must meet to be deemed a certain level of Disability Confident. See the full guide here.
Why is it important?
More and more businesses are signing up to Disability Confident every week. The scheme helps employers think differently about disability, and improve how they attract, recruit and retain disabled workers.
The scheme helps employers:

- secure high quality staff who are skilled, loyal and hard working
- improve employee morale and commitment by demonstrating that you treat all employees fairly
How will this impact Surrey Choices?
By having Disability Confident status as an employer, this means that Surrey Choices is now more than ever dedicated to recruiting any person that is the best candidate for a job, no matter whether they have a disability or not. Our aim is to ensure we celebrate the achievement, but continue to work with our colleagues to make Surrey Choices a leader and role model for others employers across Surrey. Demonstrating how easy it is to support disabled people to contribute their skills and talents to a business, without any barriers to their success. Alongside this, we will be working to encourage other businesses in the local area to get on board with this scheme and change attitudes as much as we possibly can.
We will be continuing to provide a high standard of Level 2 Disability Confident status, with the aim to progress to Level 3.
