Finding paid employment in the current climate is no easy task however, our employment team have been working tirelessly with the people we support to find them jobs across the county. There have been many success stories over the last few months within Surrey Choices and Luke’s story is no different.
Before Lockdown
Before the Coronavirus pandemic Luke left his job at a care home in search of a new challenge. So with the support of Carolyn, Employment Support Specialist at Surrey Choices they worked together to find a new job at a restaurant. On the day he was due to start, lockdown arrived leaving Luke unemployed.
After Lockdown
Throughout lockdown Carolyn found a job that fitted in with Luke’s existing qualifications as he has many transferable skills. After securing an interview at May Harris Multi Services Ltd in August, Luke received a phone call the next day from area manager Julie offering him the job. He is now employed by May Harris working at Elmbridge Borough Council.

During Luke’s first month at his new job. One of his managers got in touch with us to let us know how he was settling in:
Luke is doing brilliantly, he is always on time and has his own area to clean. He gets on well with everyone around him and works to a very high standard. He is polite, considerate and he always asks for advice if he doesn’t know about something. He is a brilliant member of staff.
Benefits
There have been many benefits to Luke’s new paid position. He now has his income back, doing a job that he really enjoys. Luke gets on well with all his colleagues at work and has made new friends.
This job has also enhanced Luke’s health and wellbeing. He is no longer sad about not having a job and with the physical demands of the work he is keeping himself fit in the process.
