We’re Celebrating Multiple Wins at the Surrey Care Awards
Health and Fitness at Woking Leisure Centre with Surrey Choices
With the ease of lockdown restrictions, some of the people we support were really eager to see their friends again and take part in some community activities at Woking Leisure Centre & Pool In The Park.
Philip, Andrew, Gary, Alan and Steven all said how much they would like to visit the gym and play Badminton on the court. So colleagues supported them to make these arrangements to go back to the Leisure Centre once it was safe to do so.
Through Person Centred Planning, it was identified that some people did not like the large equipment at the gym, such as the machines, but they still wanted to be able to enjoy exercise at the gym. Together they came up with new exercise plans using smaller pieces of equipment such as medicine balls, to help them reach their goals. By spending time going through each person’s individual goals, they have been able to come up with adaptations to exercises and activities making them inclusive and enjoyable for all involved.
Everyone who has been going to the gym and playing badminton have really enjoyed being able to do so in the community. “They are always so happy to see their friends again after a long lockdown!” Hannah Alcock, Activity Facilitator
