Growing Friendship in the Community
Imi is a young lady who is mainly a wheelchair or frame user. She was also non verbal when she began receiving support from Surrey Choices.
Every Saturday, Surrey Choices’ colleague, Roland Knight has been taking Imi out as part of FlexiChoices support. This is to provide respite for her family Carers. Roland and Imi go for a two hour walk around her community and have created a wonderful friendship.
Imi has also been doing music therapy with colleague Lindsay Elderfield and Fraser from Nordoff Robbins. She has loved singing along to all her favourite songs with Fraser on the piano.
Both of these services have been positively impacting Imi in a number of ways. Her communication skills quickly improved through Music Therapy and she and Roland now enjoy singing on their walks together. Imi has also been able to socialise with people she would not have met before joining Surrey Choices. This has really boosted her self-confidence.
Imi and her parents have been so impressed with the level of care and personalised support. They would love for Imi to attend Cranstock in the future, and have enquired into respite opportunities with Short Breaks Banstead.
“We would like to thank Lindsay very much for all her help in making this possible. This has given us all a much needed break, and allowed Imi to get some fresh air and do some singing! We would again very much appreciate if Imi could continue to attend Cranstock in the future.” Imi’s parents
