Why Ashley loves volunteering

Ashley has been volunteering in his local community for over a year now and has a strong passion for helping his colleagues. He wanted to share his story to encourage other people to consider volunteering and help organisations or people in need of some support.

Hi, my name is Ashey and I am supported by the Surrey Choices Camberley Community Group.

I wanted to find a volunteering placement somewhere so that I could gain some work experience and develop personal skills as well as gaining and improving skills in the workplace.

I have been volunteering at Alliance HealthCare in Camberley for over a year now and I love it. My main tasks include shredding documents and assisting with other tasks that my colleagues need help with.

I feel as though since volunteering here, my life has changed because I contribute to something when I am working which makes me feel happy and motivated to do more.

I would encourage anyone who is thinking about volunteering, and even anyone who is not thinking about volunteering to give it a go because I have learnt so much and feel great when I’m working and when I go home!
