Independent Living with Mel and Karen
Both Mel and Karen live in the same house and have sometimes found it difficult to bond during lockdown. This was because they could not get out of their house, see other friends or family members.
This was noticed by Surrey Choices colleagues, so they supported Mel and Karen to find a way to help them live in a more harmonious environment together.
“We created a programme of activities that both Karen and Mel enjoy. They took part in activities such as gardening, flower arranging, dancing and karaoke sessions which both Karen and Mel absolutely loved. They even danced together and seemed to both have a lot of fun.” Amy Hallam, Assistant Activity Facilitator
Sometimes living with people can be difficult because everyone has different routines and ways of doing things. By facilitating Mel and Karen to join activities they both enjoy, they have discovered that they have share common interests. They have learnt new ways to create a friendship and communicate better with each other which was really paid off.
“Since having two members of staff, the ladies have worked together in sessions and get on a lot better. Behaviour is much more positive and both Mel and Karen have enjoyed taking part in sessions together. It is really lovely to see Mel and Karen laughing together and both enjoying the same things.” Natalie Underwood, Assistant Activity Facilitator
