Independent travel and money management skills
As part of Mark’s person centred plan, he told colleagues that he wanted to be able to travel independently and manage his money. Mark is a very confident person and was keen to start travelling without support as soon as possible.
To help him achieve his goal, colleague Jose Trigo supported Mark to break down the individual tasks that are required to travel independently. This was so Mark could start at the beginning and work on single actions, until he was ready to move onto the next task.
After creating a plan of action, Mark and Jose worked on this goal for a short period of time which was really successful in getting Mark prepared for travelling by himself. ”For the first time in his life he has been able to travel independently. All the activities they practiced together were brand new to Mark, from taking himself to the station, buying a train ticket from a machine, using the correct platform, opening the train door and importantly getting off at the right station and finding the exit. Mark is so happy and proud of himself.” Jose Trigo, Activity Facilitator
Mark has been really encouraged by his friends and family to achieve his goal. His Mum told staff “I am over the moon”, and one of Mark’s closest friends also told us “It is really great for Mark.” Other colleagues from The Larches said “We are all so happy and proud of what Mark has achieved with a little perseverance.”
