Individual Spotlight: Andrew

Our Individual Spotlight feature is with Andrew. In the interview below he discussed one of his proudest achievements, new skills he has learnt this year and what he likes doing in his free time.

What is something you are really proud of?

I have played the keyboard since I was 10 years old. My father and I practice together four times a week. We have played in public lots of times and I love when people applaud us. My favourite songs to play are “Let It Be” and “From Me To You” by The Beatles. Watch this video of me playing.

I am also really proud of the 47 photo-books I have compiled for my family, and that I have kept a diary since 1995. I have been updating it everyday since so I can look back at what has happened over the last 26 years.

What is something new you have learnt this year?

I am really pleased as this year I have started taking myself from Woking Resource Centre to the Pool in the Park for swimming. I can independently use the lift and buy myself a drink from the counter in the café.

What do you most enjoy doing with Surrey Choices?

I really like meeting my friends and staff because they make me happy by being so sociable and fun. I enjoy different activities as they help me be more independent.

What is one of your goals?

I would like to become more independent and be able to go places on my own, such as the local shops in the community. I cannot wait for the first time when I can take myself to the train station, buy a train ticket from the machine and get the train alone.

What do you like to do in your free time?

When I am not playing the keyboard, I like to watch my favourite TV programmes, such as Homes Under the Hammer and The Repair Shop. I also like watching comedies. One of my favourite characters is Mr Bean. He makes me happy and laugh a lot. I also enjoy going on holiday. I go away with a group of people each year and we normally visit Croyde Bay in Devon. This year I spent some time in Poole with friends. Hopefully we will go back to Croyde Bay next year.
