Our Individual Spotlight feature is on Ella, who is supported at our Short Break Banstead service. Read her interview below to find out what she does at Short Break Banstead, how family and friends would describe her and much more.
Ella uses a few Makaton phrases and Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) cards to communicate. Ella’s Support Worker Emma supported her to use these to help her answer the questions during the interview.
What three words would your family and friends use to describe you?
Funny, mischievous and happy.
How long have you attended Short Breaks Banstead?
I have been attending Short Breaks Banstead for a few years now. I come quite often, every week or two, and really enjoy it.
What are your favourite things to do at Short Breaks Banstead?
I like going on the trampoline in the garden when the weather is nice and going to local parks to use the swings. I also like going out and had a really nice day out recently visiting a local farm.
What is something new you have tried this year?
This year I attended Summer Camp for the first time.
How do the PECS cards help you communicate?
Each card has a different picture, so I can look through them and show them to people around me so they know what I am thinking. I use them to tell people what I would like to do and eat and how I feel.
