Individual Spotlight: Imi
Written by Imi and her family
What do you most like about Surrey Choices?
I have particularly enjoyed being part of such an inclusive service. I started attending Cranstock Activity Centre when my respite closed as a result of the pandemic. I thoroughly enjoyed my FlexiChoices support there every Saturday and felt very much part of the family. After Cranstock closed during lockdown, Jo Redfern worked with me and my family to help find the support that we wanted. Firstly, she managed to organise music therapy with Linzi and Fraser for me every week. She also arranged for Roland to take me out in my wheelchair into the community every Saturday morning, giving my family a much needed break.
What is something you are really proud of?
I am really proud of how happy I am and how I take everything in my stride. I love nothing better than being with others and singing along to my favourite music.
What is one of your goals or dreams?
To see Take That in concert!
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love going out into the town and seeing people. I also love watching films, preferably musicals like Mama Mia and Beauty and the Beast. I enjoy listening to my favourite group, Take That. I also like going swimming and trips out to the cinema.
What is something you love being a part of at Surrey Choices?
This has to be my music therapy sessions with Linzi Elderfield and Fraser from Nordoff Robbins. Fraser knows exactly what sort of music I like, and I love listening to him playing my favourite tunes on the piano and guitar. I have grown in confidence over the weeks, and love to tap and sing along to the music.
