Individual Spotlight: Mark
Our Individual Spotlight feature is with Mark. In the interview below he discussed how he achieved one of his main goals through his person centred plan.
What is something you wanted to achieve this year?
To learn how to safely travel by train by myself so I can be more independent.
What did you do to learn how to safely get the train?
We started by breaking down each task into smaller goals and practiced them for a few weeks with support from staff. Like walking the same route to the train station and practicing reading train timetables.
How has it made you feel to be learning something new in the community?
Really proud and happy of myself.
What do your friends and family think about your achievement?
My family are really proud too. My mum said she is “over the moon” that I can get the train by myself. My friends also think it is great. We can meet up now when we want and more often.
How has travelling independently changed your life?
For the first time ever I can take myself to the station, buy train tickets from the machine, use the correct platform, get off at the right station and find the exit. I can do more things confidently now and I feel very proud.
