Our Individual Spotlight feature is on Tom, who is a part of our Future Choices programme. Read Tom’s interview below to find out what he enjoys about his volunteering role and what he does in his spare time.
How has Future Choices been supporting you?
They helped me find a volunteering job which I really love doing.
What is your volunteering job?
Every Thursday I volunteer with the Friends In St Helier (FISH) Social Club, for people over 50.
What do you most like about your job at St Heliers?
Seeing everyone! I love to socialise with the people that come here.
Have you had any feedback from the people you serve?
They say “Tom is a very nice boy. There should be more people like him helping the elderly. We all love him!”
What sort of tasks are you responsible for?
I help to set up activities in the morning for people who are coming in for the day and get to join in with them. Then I help with getting ready for lunch. I lay the tables, help with serving meals and then put the dishes away at the end.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love to go cycling. I visit Wheels for All Cycling Project and it is really good fun and great exercise.
What is new for 2022?
I have recently taken on a new challenge to complete the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.
