James becomes more involved in his community and learns new skills
James joined EmployAbility and had recently left his voluntary role he had been doing for five years. He has recently taken a step towards volunteering roles that are closer aligned to his goals of being outside and more hands on.
Employment Support Specialist Rubens King, supported James by securing a number of interviews which also included a surprise panel interview. This was a brilliant experience for James to improve his interviewing skills with a small group of interviewees.
Following his success at the panel interview, James chose to get involved with a voluntary gardening role at The Hive Community Centre. Alongside volunteering at The Hive, James has also started to help at Lockwood Activity Centre to help spruce up the outside communal areas.
“I like to help out as much as I can and help sort out the trees and clear the paths.” James
James has impressed Rubens with his adaptability. He did not just secure a voluntary opportunity, but the chance for more social interaction, continuing to contribute to the community and using his skills, knowledge, and experience to make a difference.
“James helps the community so much. We are pleased he has found a role that he enjoys, can take initiative and can get stuck in.” Rubens King, Employment Support Specialist
