A group in Guildford have been busy knitting and nattering to create 95 individually fun hats small enough to fit on top of a bottle of smoothie.
These pint-size woollen hats produced by the Knit and Natter group have been expertly knitted in a variety of fun colours, topped off with handmade pom-poms for a scheme set up by the brand Innocent Smoothies and the charity Age UK.
Every time Innocent Smoothies sell a little bottle wearing a hat, they will donate 25p to Age UK to help keep older people warm and well over winter. The colder months can be tough for a lot of people – as many as 25,000 older people’s lives are at risk because of the cold. Thanks to knitters across the nation, the company have raised over £1.9 million so far.
Congratulations to our Guildford group on a superb effort!
The national campaign is aiming for two million hats to be knitted by various groups and individuals to raise the bar on last year’s total. The funds generated support Age UK branches across the country to continue to keep older people in our communities. The purchase of blankets and hot water bottles plus the organisation of social gatherings are directly helped by these funds.
