Life Skills in Reigate
A group from Future Choices enjoyed an afternoon of outdoor orienteering in Reigate, supported by other members of the East EmployAbility Team. The aim of the day was to enhance their team working skills as well as using their own initiative.
The group were briefed on how the afternoon would run. They needed to use map reading skills and problem solving to gain points and find two very well hidden objects in Disney’s Princess Elsa and Godzilla.
Everyone made a great start, some working independently and some in a team. Surrey Choices colleague David Man was delighted to see them working together so well in the community.
“It was great to see their enthusiasm and confidence in working out these written challenges in a busy location. As well as working on their own initiative, meeting new people and doing verbal and written communication, all vital skills required for employment!” David Man, Service Coordinator.
As the heavens opened, Ed, Tom, Susan and Shannon certainly got more than their hands dirty in searching for a well camouflaged Godzilla in the undergrowth. At 3:30pm the group congregated to find out who had got the most points on the orienteering challenge and after the scores were totalled Susan and Shannon were announced as joint winners.
