Lizzi wins Care Innovation Challenge 2022
Last weekend, Lizzi Jordan, Diversity and Inclusion Officer, took part in the National Care Forum’s “Care Innovation Challenge 2022”. The Challenge requires participants to form teams and come up with an idea to improve an area of health and social care.
Lizzi’s team decided to focus on ideas around extra care services, which allow people with disabilities to live independently in their own flat. (rather than moving into a residential service) Then receive specific support for anything they find difficult.
However, Lizzi explained “Unfortunately not everybody gets the opportunity to live in extra care and end up going into residential which they may not be happy about”.
Innovative Idea
They came up with the idea to offer a three week trial period for people who are looking to move into extra care services. This would enable them to see if they like the service and whether the service is suitable for them. Lizzi was able to give her view through her own lived experience after she unexpectedly lost her sight at University.
Lizzi and her team had to present their idea in front of the other teams and a panel of judges. The judges loved their idea and selected them as winners to go to the final in Birmingham in October. Congratulations Lizzi!
