New Skills with The Growth Team
As part of Luke’s person centred plan he wants to learn new skills that can help him achieve paid work. He has an excellent work ethic and great attention to detail which are already important traits to have for any employee.
Luke joined a Learning and Development programme on The Growth Team. The programme supports people to learn and develop new skills in a working environment. Their skills are challenged and developed, to improve them so they can achieve their goals and objectives. Luke took on more responsibility in the programme by talking to the group about certain types of machinery, imparting his knowledge to others.
Luke achieved paid work on a trial basis on a Friday, assisting an Estate Manager on an 18 acre estate near Godalming. His confidence and self esteem have improved immensely and this has also helped with his anxiety. As a group and as individuals, the results have been fantastic. This has been supported by feedback from parents. He is very excited about the job and his family are very pleased for him:
“We have noticed a huge improvement recently in Luke, his increased confidence which we feel has come as a result of him being challenged, taking ownership of individual tasks he is given and enabling him to feel more comfortable with communication. The encouragement from the team has been helping his anxiety, and together with the new skills he has learned will stand him in good stead for his new Friday venture. Hopefully this opportunity will in turn help Luke progress on his journey on a safe, rewarding path.”
