Maintaining communal spaces at Merrist Wood
Max and Josh are volunteering at Merrist Wood. They are helping maintain their communal spaces such as the bee gardens, working in the polytunnel, and keeping the wider space neatly maintained.
Contributing in the community
Both Max and Josh were looking for an activity in the community to get involved with and contribute to. It was identified that a number of people supported by EmployAbility were interested in this volunteering opportunity. As a result, there is now a volunteering group who together look after Merrist Wood’s communal spaces each week.
Outcomes
Another great outcome from this opportunity has resulted in two of the group members being inspired to do a course at Merrist Wood. Volunteering in a college environment has encouraged them to think about further education and they are exploring starting a course this year.
“It’s been a privilege to welcome Surrey Choices and the people they support onto the campus and work with them. As a team, we have worked hard and made amazing progress rejuvenating our bee garden. It is now beginning to look fantastic. We could not have done it without them.” – Merrist Wood”
