Partnership working with Surrey Choices’ Growth Teams
Across all our services we are increasing partnership working with other organisations across the county. We are an organisation that is moving away from doing everything by itself and on its own, to an organisation that partners up with others to open up more opportunities.
The Growth Teams
The Surrey Choices Growth Teams offer work experience in gardening, countryside management and horticulture. The Growth Teams work across Surrey with local businesses, community groups and residents. They help maintain the Surrey countryside and public spaces including managing local community areas across the county. This calendar year they have won awards both externally and internally for the partnerships they have formed and have been a shining example in that agenda.
Awards
Jackie Doe, Vocational Projects Development Manager at Surrey Choices, spoke about how big of an impact winning the BBC Environmental Award is for people supported at Surrey Choices.
“Winning this award was so unexpected but so brilliant. It shows the magnificent work disabled people can do in the community and we would not have won this award without them.”
Internally, Mark Evenden, Senior Vocational Support Worker with the Growth Team, won the Working in Partnership Award at the Surrey Choices Recognising You: Colleague Awards 2022.
Mark and his colleagues within The Growth Team have worked tirelessly to find new partners over the year including; Surrey Hills, Tice’s Meadow, Hampton Estate Farms, Surrey Wildlife Trust, Surrey Heath Tree Wardens, Skills Mill and many more.
Impact
After generating these partnerships, the team realised how they open so many doors that have allowed for new projects, groups, and learning opportunities for people we support which allows a higher chance of finding paid work for people we support.
