Progressing to paid employment
Michelle has been supported by EmployAbility since January 2020. She has come on leaps and bounds recently and has been mentioned in the Stripey Stork volunteer Facebook page.
Stripey Stork collect donations of toys and clothes for babies and children. After checking they meet current UK safety standards, they re-home them with local families experiencing hardship.
Michelle volunteers there once a week and is responsible for organising donations and keeping the warehouse tidy. She is exceptionally good at this.
More recently, Michelle took a big step in her development and attended her first interview for paid employment. Previously, Michelle had felt extremely nervous about attending a formal interview and she lacked confidence. Michelle stepped far out of her comfort zone and gave some really good examples of her work experience during the interview and positively smashed it!
She initially went for the housekeeping role but the interviewers saw her creative and imaginative spark and put her forward for an interview for the activity assistant role. Michelle did very well during the interview and was able to give some great examples of personal and professional experiences with arts and crafts and supporting others.
Michelle is waiting to hear back from the home so fingers crossed she gets the job!
