Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility at Surrey Choices
As one of the two Organisational Safeguarding Leads, my role is to assist the Area Operations Managers and Team Managers, to ensure that our safeguarding responsibilities under the Care Act are met on a day-to-day basis. I provide advice and guidance regarding individual cases. I also work with our Quality Assurance and Learning and Development Teams, to co-ordinate safeguarding compliance across the organisation.
Some of that work includes:
- Ensuring all colleagues have appropriate safeguarding training and information
- Ensuring safeguarding enquiries are completed on time with an appropriate response
- Representing Surrey Choices at Surrey Safeguarding Adults Board and other meetings
- Reflecting on cases and outcomes in safeguarding meetings
Improving Safeguarding Training
Reflective practice is a very important tool in establishing and maintaining a safeguarding culture. It allows us to recognise and reflect on experiences, in order to learn from them and improve the way we support people. We are working on gathering a bank of training materials such as anonymised alerts and case studies from serious case reviews, that can be used by mangers in team meetings to prompt discussions and learning. This will ensure that colleagues are well informed in order to recognise and act on any potential signs of abuse or neglect.
Safeguarding Duty
It is important to ensure that all colleagues understand their duty to safeguard the people we support, and how to comply with our safeguarding policies and procedures.
