Our service which matches adults who need support with host carers who provide them with care in their home continues to go from strength to strength.
Surrey Choices Shared Lives is a service provided by carefully chosen single people, couples or families who offer support and accommodation within their own households. The people they support live or stay as part of the Shared Lives Carers’ family having been carefully matched by experienced teams at Surrey Choices.
Shared Lives offers a real alternative to other forms of support and accommodation for people with learning disabilities, mental health or other support needs such as dementia. Shared Lives carers encourage the person they support to gain confidence, have greater independence and develop skills and lasting relationships.
Shared Lives Manager Emma Cozzi from Surrey Choices, said: “Sometimes a person requires on-going support in a homely environment as it can really provide stability and support which helps them immensely. Other times we are contacted by families who are looking for respite breaks for their loved one who may have dementia. The service provides support for young adults right through to older adults.
“Shared Lives enables people to choose the level of care that is right for them in a trusted environment with people they are matched to. We see this service making such a difference to people’s lives – both the adults who need support and the carers themselves.”
