One of our support workers has marked his 30th year of working in the adult and social care sector.
David Lawrence embarked on his career in 1987 when he joined Surrey County Council’s Bentley Day Services as a Support Worker, before working his way up to a Senior Activity Facilitator.
He was a key influence in linking the Bentley service in with the Woodmansterne Sports Club, enabling customers to use the facilities for sports and activities prior to Surrey Choices taking over the service.
Surrey Choices customers, Carers, staff and volunteers came together to mark the milestone day, with community radio station, Direction Radio providing music throughout the course of the day.
David Lawrence, commented: “The last 30 years have been an absolute joy. It has been an honour to meet so many wonderful people and help them to achieve their full potential.
“There are very few careers out there that give you a real sense of purpose, but working in the social care sector has given me more satisfaction than I could ever imagine and for that I am truly grateful. Here’s to the next 30 years!”
A trophy plaque was presented to David from Surrey Choices staff, alongside a collage of pictures showcasing his work throughout the years.
