A dance group with a difference from Surrey is preparing to take centre stage at a national event being hosted by the Mayor of London to showcase inclusive sports and disability arts.
Surrey Choices Rhythmic Collision Dance Company, which comprises of 14 dancers with learning and physical disabilities, will perform at the opening of the National Paralympic Day and Liberty Festival.
The festival, which takes place on September 3, at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, just four days before the Rio 2016 Paralympics, is a family-friendly free event showcasing inclusive sports and arts.
The day will offer a huge range of ‘come and try’ inclusive sports for all, alongside the country’s foremost outdoor showcase for deaf and disability arts.
Members of the dance group, who range in age from 22-51, will perform alongside The Orchestra of Unlimited Potential (UP!) in a unique music and dance performance called CollabRio (COR).
The collaboration, in association with the Embassy of Brazil, will bring together young participants with mixed abilities under the guidance of some of the finest British and Brazilian artists in London and the South East. Together they will play out a unique performance of music, dance and voice celebrating 100 years of samba and the Paralympic values of courage, determination, inspiration and equality.
