Kuldip Dhadda is the winner for this year’s Outstanding Shared Lives Carer award 2022.
Shared Lives is a unique caring arrangement enabling more than 10,000 people with a learning or physical disability, mental ill health, dementia, or other ongoing social care needs, to share their carer’s home and family life.
This year nominations were made by Shared Lives members from up and down the UK for the prestigious awards.
Ewan King, CEO of Shared Lives Plus, says, “The Shared Lives Plus awards are an opportunity for us to recognise the fantastic work done by those giving and receiving Shared Lives care across the UK.
“Though this award is focused on individuals, our winners are symbolic of the attitude and commitment of all our members. A lot of nominations were made, and competition was very tough. The awards panel had a hard job on their hands, as Shared Lives carers have opened their homes to people in the toughest circumstances, and through lockdown, with very few breaks or recognition.
Shared Lives enables people to live how they want to, with people they have chosen, and have chosen them. These mutually beneficial relationships are transformative, and we are delighted to honour Kuldip Dhadda with the Outstanding Shared Lives carer award for 2022.
The Outstanding Shared Live Carer award is given to a Shared Lives Carer who has gone above and beyond to improve outcomes and community connections for those they support. To be recognised for this national award is a huge achievement. There are thousands of Shared Lives Carer across the country and for Kuldip to win is a testament to her commitment as a Carer. The judging panel was inspired by Kuldip’s commitment to supporting people with complex needs to grow in confidence.
Kuldip Dhadda, Shared Lives carer was delighted but also humble after winning the award:
“It is great. I feel so appreciative of what everybody thinks of me. I do not feel like I have done anything special but then hearing what people are saying about me is just great. The real reward for me is just getting on with people, supporting them, and seeing them move on and doing well in life.”

“We are so pleased that Kuldip has won this award, we hope that it will go a little way to showing her just how appreciative our scheme is for the support that she gives to people that she opens her home to. Kuldip has this amazing ability to see past assessments and paperwork, getting to know the real person, making connections on a personal level, gaining trust, and supporting people in a personalised way allowing them to feel safe and welcomed.
