Thriving after a Furlough setback
As restrictions and lockdowns came into place Jamie was put on furlough from his job as a Catering Assistant. In the summer of 2021 he was set to return to work when he was told his job was no longer available to him. However, when one door closes another one often opens.
Employment Support
With support from his Employment Support Specialist, Emily, Jamie began looking for other jobs in the catering business. It was suggested to Emily and Jamie that there could be openings in a kitchen at Pirbright Barracks. Pirbright offered Jamie a working trial after his enquiry about the vacant position.
Trial day
Jamie started the trial. His new employers were so impressed with his initiative and cooking skills that they cut the trial short and offered him a role in the Pirbright kitchens. The manager was fantastic in supporting Jamie through the recruitment process. There were lots of checks needed since it was an army training site.
Annual review
At Jamie’s annual review in December 2021, both Jamie and his mum spoke about how happy Jamie is at Pirbright. Jamie commented by saying “it is the best job I have ever had.”
Emily “They both feel that Jennifer and the staff at Pirbright understand Jamie and he feels appreciated and included at work and they have supported him to grow into his potential”
