Do I have to pay for Travel Choices?
If you receive transport assistance from Surrey County Council, you can access this service for free.
What happens if I want to cycle the route but do not have a bicycle?
Travel Choices will always ensure that you have the right equipment. A bike and accessories can be given if you do not have access to a bike.
How do you know what the best routes are?
Your travel Coach will work with you to find the most appropriate and safest route possible. If you would like to learn a different route we can accommodate this.
We are here to teach you how to access your community independently and reduce any barriers that may get in your way.
How long does the course last?
The course is tailored around the person we support and what support they want. The travel Coach normally works with the you for six weeks.
What are the first steps?
A Travel Coach will be assigned to the young person to support them on their journey to independence.
The Travel Coach will then complete a route assessment. This will be to and from school or college and will identify all the risks and hazards, safe points and landmarks.
What do you do if the bus route changes?
By using a smartphone you can easily access changes to the route by making sure you receive the notifications.
If you are feeling worried or anxious about this, a Travel Coach will support you with this new route
Once I am travel trained, what happens next?
Your Travel Coach will make contact with you every three months to make sure you are happy with your travel. They will also support you with any problems that you may have had.
Who can access Travel Choices?
Children and young people from the age of 11 who receive transport assistance from Surrey County Council to get to school or college can access Travel Choices.
