Case Study: Empowering Individuals Through Supported Volunteering
This month, we interviewed Dermot for our internal newsletter. Dermot is a customer of EmployAbility, and his Employment Support Specialist supported him to land his dream job working at Chessington World of Adventures Resort!
Here is what Dermot told us about himself:
What are your favourite hobbies or interests?
I love dancing, practicing yoga and horse riding
How would your friends and family describe you?
As happy, helpful and friendly, with a ‘Can do Attitude’!
One thing I can’t live without:
Food!!! And of course my family.
What do you most enjoy about coming to Surrey Choices?
I have had a huge amount of support from EmployAbility – without that support I would have struggled to get my new job, working at Chessington World of Adventures Resort! The support I have had is on-going and they give over and above what I ever expected.
Can you tell us something you have achieved since joining Surrey Choices?
I am more confident, especially in group exercises and interviews. This is because of the advice I received from EmployAbility (I.e. how to stand out from everyone else in a group interview situation) which has helped me to secure my dream job. The staff in my new job are really friendly and helpful as well.
Do you have a favourite memory, day, event or activity you enjoyed the most you can tell us about?
In 2018, I performed with a dance company on the Steps of St Paul’s Cathedral in London! I was also involved in the 2016 Olympics!
