Case Study: Empowering Individuals Through Supported Volunteering

EmployAbility often attend meetings and events to talk to people about careers, employment and how the service can support them in their journey into work. Throughout lockdown, they have continued to attend virtual open days, career festivals and other events.
One of the events they attended was a careers talk with students from Linden Bridge School, who have worked closely with EmployAbility for a few years now. Colleagues David Man and Eric Tomalin spoke to a number of students over Zoom, discussing their own experiences of employment, how EmployAbility has helped people to achieve their dream jobs, and sharing tips and resources with the students to help them think about careers they might like to pursue.
One of the students was really inspired by the talk with Eric and David. He has a passion for photography and wanted to use his skills to show his appreciation to them for speaking to him and his classmates. The student sent over a thank you card via email, featuring one of his own photographs which was signed by him and the rest of his class, thanking David and Eric for their time. The teachers from Linden Bridge School said how much of a positive impact the talk had on many of the students, it really encouraged them to think about what they can achieve in the future and really boosted their spirits as a result.
