Weekend and Evening Respite

Surrey Choices’ Weekend and Evening Respite service is a part of our Short Breaks offering.

Surrey Choices can support you as a family Carer to provide you with respite, while the person you care for is being safely looked after.

Short Breaks

Our Short Breaks offer is for:

People with additional support needs:

  • Living at home with their family or Carer
  • Whose family or Carer needs a break
  • Who need an emergency Short Break, such as when a family member or full time Carer needs to stay in hospital or when circumstances change at home and more support is needed
  • When a person is recovering from a stay in hospital and needs additional support

We will look at the person’s needs, wishes and goals to advise them, their family or Carer on support in terms of the frequency and type of service we can provide, whether that is out in the community or in one of our purpose-built buildings.

Weekend And Evening Respite Service

Formerly known as Flexi-Choices, our Weekend and Evening Respite service provides support in the community or within a Community Hub. The break may include:

  • Going out for meals
  • Going swimming
  • Taking a trip to the cinema or museum
  • Pursuing other interests in a community setting

Support can be provided for small groups or one-to-one support dependent on the individual’s needs. Surrey Choices offers a range of other short break options including Emily Lodge Short Breaks Service, Woking and Shared Lives.

Testimonials

Kelly

As part of Kelly’s support with our Weekend and Evening Respite service, she wanted to learn more about horticulture and wildlife in time for Spring and Summer so she could make the most of her garden and outdoor space.

Kelly has been spending some time researching the different types of wildlife including birds and bugs, as well as plants, to learn more about how to help look after the natural environment and the species that thrive within it.

Whilst researching, Kelly found some great projects which she could leave in her garden and monitor over the following months to increase her gardening skills and knowledge.

One of these projects included making a bird house and a bug house to provide shelter and somewhere for the wildlife in her garden. She already had two plant pots that were not being used and so decided to paint them her favourite colours and designs.

Harry

Harry joined our Weekend and Evening Support to learn some new life skills to continue living a healthy lifestyle.

In a few months he has already built excellent relationships with colleagues who support him on a Saturday.

Harry has been supported to improve his decision-making skills so that he can become more independent. Colleagues have helped Harry to create lunches, go shopping, and learn about money management.

Harry loves to be active and as part of his support he enjoys going out for walks around his local community. Part of this experience includes Harry buying himself a drink and a treat, which has been another way of helping him learn about money management and making decisions around healthy food and drinks.
