Title:   Passenger Assistant
Reports to: TBC
Location: Various hubs across Surrey
Hours:                   Full time is 37.5 hours a week

Job Purpose

To assist passengers using in-house transport services to customers on a daily basis, ensuring they are safely picked up and dropped off at our various services across Surrey Choices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for designated route, you will provide door-to-door transport services to our customers who cannot easily use other forms of transport.
  • Establishing positive and professional relationships with passengers, their carers/parents and key people at the hubs they attend.
  • Working with a Driver who will pick you up and drop you off, you will assist with helping passengers on and on the minibus, operating a wheelchair lift when required and ensuring passengers are safe whilst travelling.
  • Reporting any safeguarding concerns or issues to the Community Transport Manager.
  • Ensuring the minibus is kept clean and tidy.

  • Maintain professional and personal boundaries with all customers, parents & carers, colleagues and other professionals
  • Take responsibility for own continuous professional development and maintaining an adequate level of knowledge and skills pertaining to the role.
  • Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required of this role and as requested by Manager(s).
  • Take all reasonable precautions to maintain the health and safety of self and others, ensuring that any risks in relation to this are reported and remedial action taken in a timely manner.

Person Specifications, Qualification, Experience, Skills, Knowledge

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

 

 

 

  • Aged 21+ for insurance purposes
  • Ability to support people accessing services into and out of the vehicle and where wheelchairs are involved to be fully conversant with the operation and safety arrangements for wheelchairs where necessary (Training will be provided)
  • Ability to act effectively to diffuse any difficult situations on the vehicles and to write brief notes/reports on incidents.
  • Ability to liaise over day-to-day concerns between home and service with tact and diplomacy,
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills and ability to maintain written records including recording passenger complaints.

 

  • Experience of working with vulnerable people,  and people with disabilities in a caring and understanding manner.
  • Experience of working in a passenger care environment.
  • Ability to work flexibly within the services core hours and outside of normal office hours within a rota.
