Employment Support in Surrey Hospitals

Diversify your workforce – Workplaces for disabled and autistic people

What is Employment Support in Surrey Hospitals?

Surrey Heartlands and Surrey Choices have teamed up to ensure there are more opportunities in our workplaces for disabled and autistic people.

We need your help to make this a success.

  • What job opportunities could you provide in your department for talented disabled or autistic people?
  • Do you want to diversify your workforce and reflect our community?
  • Would you like to talk to a Supported Employment Liaison Lead with specialist knowledge on how to increase the number of disabled people in your teams?

We can help you!

You will be working in partnership with Surrey Choices, an award-winning Supported Employment service, who work with around 700 disabled job seekers each year. They will help to find sustainable work opportunities and careers in health and social care through a personalised approach. This could be through a work taster, work experience, volunteering or a paid job in your department. Your placements can last one week to one year (or longer, it will be to suit you and the person being supported)

In return for offering a placement to a disabled person you will:

  • Be supporting disabled people find the chance of a job and to work in our hospitals and health settings (nationally only 5% of people with a learning disability have a paid job despite most saying they would like to work)
  • Help fill vacancies with a willing, underrepresented workforce.
  • Get free job coaching, training and advice for people placed in your teams.
  • Have a more diverse and inclusive workforce reflecting the range of the people supported.
  • Be joining many other health and social care providers across the country who are successfully employing disabled and autistic people.

Get In Touch

Get in touch with our new Supported Employment Liaison Leads, who are based in our hospitals, who can support you to identify potential placements and candidates. They will help to match the perfect person for the job and provide you and the candidate with support to create a successful placement. A hospital employer who has worked with us before to provide inclusive workplaces said:

“As a grounds man I was asked to support a young autistic man, I have some personal experience and it worked well for us both. Seeing him gain confidence helped me too – he moved onto an apprenticeship and now works full time” Hospital Employee
