Title:   Shared Lives Deputy Manager
Reports to: Shared Lives Manager
Accountable to: Senior Operations Manager
Location: Contracted Base – Lockwood Guildford / home working

Post requires travel across County

Hours:                   37.5 hours per week Mon – Fri with flexibility/occasional weekend working

Job Purpose

The post holder be responsible for ensuring that the scheme delivers safe and person-centred care and support for vulnerable adults. The Shared Lives Deputy Manager will be expected to oversee Shared Lives scheme workers, Shared Lives arrangements and provide support and monitoring to Shared Lives carers. The scheme aims to promote individual independence and enable customers to achieve their goals and aspirations. Therefore, the Deputy Manager will need to be able to work with customers with a range of needs in a personalised way to completed Shared Lives documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete Shared Lives Carer assessments
  • Prepare and deliver training to prospective and existing Shared Lives carers
  • Support the scheme with arranging and attending events to promote Shared Lives
  • Oversee arrangements and maintain paperwork in accordance with CQC Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOE)
  • Carry a small caseload of Shared Lives carers supporting customers with complex issues
  • To lead on topics paramount to maintaining customer well-being and safety such as: Risk management, Moving and handling, PBS and support with Safeguarding concerns
  • Ensure that the scheme’s documentation, policies and procedures are implemented and regularly reviewed
  • Joint work with other professionals and teams as required in order to meet the needs of the customer
  • To ensure that customers and Shared Lives carers are involved in the development and practices of the service
  • Provide supervision and complete appraisals with Shared Lives staff
  • To cover the Shared Lives duty system as required
  • Ensure staff team training and learning is maintained and further development opportunities discussed as appropriate
  • To comply with General Data Protection Regulations and ensure scheme workers and carers also comply
  • Ensure staff and carers are supported appropriately to understand the safeguarding issues to maximise their decision making

Qualification and Training

 

 

 

 

·       Good grades in GCSE English and Maths or equivalent qualification is essential

 

 

·       NVQ in Management or other Social Care professional qualifications desirable but not essential

·       Professional qualifications relevant to Social care desirable but not essential

 

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

 

 

·       Excellent Communication skills – verbal and written for a range of different audiences

·       Must be a competent user of IT hardware and software

·       Ability to work independently to be able to use initiative and be innovative. Demonstrable evidence of problem solving and completion of tasks

·       Commitment to delivering high quality services to customers in line with the Surrey Choices Vision and Values. Passion to provide high quality person centred services

·       Good organisational skills.  Ability to prioritise work in an environment which may have conflicting pressures and demands

·       Thorough understanding of all relevant legislation and ability to embed this within day to day practice. Oversee and support staff to apply legislation appropriately including Safeguarding and MCA

·       Knowledge, skill and working practice of undertaking assessments, support plans, reviews and risk assessments with attention to detail

·       Ability to work under pressure. Sound creative problem-solving skills and flexible approach to working with customers, Shared Lives carers, colleagues and stakeholders

·       Be self-motivated, proactive and able to work well with other in a multi-agency environment and under pressure, including responding in crisis situations.

·       Thorough understanding of key relevant legislation and relevant of experience of operating within it

·       Ability to handle difficult situations and conversations whilst maintaining professional and customer centred standards

 

Experience Required:

 

·       Experience of completing Mental Capacity assessments

·       Experience of providing person centred care to people with Social Care Needs

·       Experience of implementing improvements to paperwork and procedures – including but not limited to risk assessment and customer care files

·       Experience of supervision staff

·       Experience of working with diverse communities and understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practices

 

 
 

Personal Qualities

 

 

·       Evidence of CPD to keep up to date with latest research and good practice guidance

·       Desire for constant improvement in service provision and a passion for the shared lives model of social care

 

 

·       Care Certificate and knowledge of CQC regulations and Health Care Act is desirable
