Celebrating Success  

The Celebrating Success Awards highlight the achievements of people supported by Surrey Choices. The judging panel was comprised of disabled people and colleagues from Surrey Choices. They were impressed by how each of the winners had overcome challenges, achieved new goals and were inspired by the way they demonstrated the values at Surrey Choices. 

Friends Relationships and Communities Award 

For the Friends Relationships and Communities award judges were looking for individuals who: 

• Have a positive impact on the lives of other  

• Are active in their community  
• Learnt new skills to connect with their friends and support networks 

The Nomination  

Tom has been volunteering every week at the Friends of St Helier Social Club. He cheerfully helps to set up activities and serves lunch to a group of older people. 

Taking up a new challenge this year, this person is aiming for a Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award. He is always keen to support his friends and became a team leader at an outdoor learning event.  

The judges were impressed at how Tom is willing to make extra effort to help others in his local community. He has bravely tried new things and encouraged and inspired other young people on the Future Choices programme to do the same. 

The Impact  

When Tom found out that he had won the award he said: 

“I like working here. I am really proud to win this award”
